Sampling Response Plan
- Hypoxia Points of Contact & Equipment Inventory
- Dissolved Oxygen Sampling Protocol & Data Entry Form (PDF)
PHASE 1: Reports of Potential Hypoxia Event (unusual fish landings/behavior, etc.)
Citizens: HAB Reports, Fish Kill Reports, Online event report, Calls to DHEC or DNR
Pier Instruments: Email alerts based on: near-real-time DO probe,
temperature gauges
DO @ < 4 mg/L, bottom temp < threshold , bottom temp rate of change > -.3 °/d/5 days,
DO % saturation < 60%, DO rate of change > 2.5/12 hrs.
PHASE 2: Initial Contact
Sadie Drescher: 843-953-0248
Dwayne Porter: 803-777-4615
PHASE 3: Initial Sampling Response
- Announce report on listserve
- Assess likelihood of hypoxia event
- Is local assessment of report possible?
PHASE 4: Full Sampling Response
If local assessment = low dissolved oxygen, then Caro-COOPS will attempt to coordinate:
- Process Studies
- Spatial Extent
- Shoreline Transects (Piers)
- Offshore Transects (Boats)
- Duration (Continuous data collected)
- Remote Sensing Analysis
- Fish/Invert. & Habitat Surveys
